While it would be impractical to list all of the cases that our firm has been involved with over the last several years, the following is a small sampling (identifying information has been left out for privacy reasons):
- Firm represented a legally blind and partially deaf mother in her child custody dispute. Initial order (that is, before our firm's involvement in the case) awarded custody to the father on the basis of the disabilities of our client (which is illegal under California State law). Our strategy involved the formation of a team of distinguished professionals to address the sensitive issues in the case involving the child.
- Firm represented victim of domestic violence through trial, after having come close to losing her three daughters to the abuser (that is, before our firm's involvement in the case). The trial ended with the abuser (spouse and child abuser) having to have a professional monitor present with him anytime he was with the children. The judicial officer wrote in his final order, following nineteen full days of trial, that Robert Sainburg provided "excellent" services to his client.
- Firm represented a family in a highly publicized case against a municipality that decided that it would bulldoze down the family's home and incarcerate the parents for alleged building code violations. The unusual case resulted in an injunction issued against the municipality during a televised hearing, the parents remaining out of jail, and the house standing.
- Firm represented a well-known personality in a multi-million dollar family dispute between one of the family members against all of the other family members. The wealthy parents had put their assets into a partnership as an estate planning tool and made the children partners. One of the children elected to exercise his rights as a partner and filed a lawsuit to dissolve the partnership. After a lengthy court battle, the painful case settled.
- Firm represented an individual against a very famous pop singer's family in a multi-million dollar collection case, which resulted in a significant amount of media coverage, including the seizure of a grand piano (on which a particularly famous song was composed) and a Rolls Royce occurred.
- Firm represented a father who had lost custody of his daughter and suffered a restraining order against him from any contact with his daughter or her school, whether in person or by telephone. Firm turned this result on its head and the case ultimately resulted in permanent orders awarding custody to our client and that the mother (who claimed to be a witch) must have a monitor with her at all times when she is with her child and all telephone conversations with her child are to be tape recorded.
- Firm represented a well-known figure in a real estate dispute against a pre-eminent real estate firm in the California appellate courts concerning issues revolving around agency. Firm prevailed.
- Firm represented the tenants of an apartment complex, all of whom were elderly women, against a slumlord who was harassing the tenants, removing their plumbing, security protection, lighting, parking rights, and other tactics to coerce the tenants to move from the rent-controlled units. The case resolved favorably for the tenants.
